Most birthmarks are harmless and are usually skin discoloration that occurs at birth or in the first weeks of a baby’s life. They appear anywhere on the child’s face or body and vary in color, size, appearance and shape. Some are permanent and may grow over time. Others disappear completely.
In the case of little Winry, her sign is one that is permanent and that in most cases becomes a topic of discussion in the wells.
Her mother, who has over 54,000 followers on Instagram, wanted to show that her daughter is a beautiful creature and hopes through her posts that people will accept and get acquainted with people who have something different.
Little Win was born with a rare ᴅɪsᴇᴀsᴇ called Cᴏɴɢᴇɴɪᴛᴀʟ Mᴇʟᴀɴᴏᴄʏᴛᴇ Dɪsᴇᴀsᴇ (CMN). When little Winry Kay was born, many wondered what she had in her face from birth. Her mother talked about this sign and her feelings through a post on her personal account when she first saw her angel.
“This photo makes me very excited. It was the first photo that my husband captured me hugging my little girl and I love her very much. It was the first photo I posted, I wrote a comment but in the end I deleted it. It is what happened in the minute, but it did not show her whole face and I could not think that anyone would say that I could hide it on purpose.
I want Winry to know that her CMN does not define her. While it may be a part of her that makes her unique, and is the reason for this extra attention, I know it will not be the most special thing about her. I am so excited to watch her grow and discover what those other things are – her mind, sense of humor, bravery, kindness – but whatever they are, I know there will be many things about her that are much more remarkable than a spot on her face.”
Her mother posts photos of the little girl every day, wanting to tell everyone who follows her that the CMN should not affect anyone to a huge degree. She wants to make sure that her daughter will never have to hide her face and that she will be involved in whatever her skin needs to show. She wants her daughter to have courage, self-confidence and of course to enjoy and live life as every girl does growing up.
